Join a Standing Committee

Standing Committees are convened by the General Assembly Secretariat to investigate or develop solutions to a particular issue that the Assembly or President has identified, and which have specified terms of authority and a specific time course for the committee to do its work. See the descriptions below!

Membership to Standing Committees is open. If you are interested in serving, please contact the GPSG Chief of Staff.

Join the General Assembly

The General Assembly is the main legislative body of GPSG, and meets regularly to discuss GPSG business, voice concerns, and listen to presentations from University administrators.  Each program and department at Duke University is represented.

The Director of Events and Programming organizes a robust, diverse portfolio of events each semester for the entire graduate and professional student body. You can find and register for our events via dukegroups.

Outreach

Durham Relations

The Director of Durham Relations organizes regularly occurring community outreach/service programming and promotes communication and collaboration among campus community service groups.  They have two major focuses: cultivating a sense of community amongst all graduate and professional students, and arranging events for Duke students to engage with the greater Durham community.

External Advocacy

The Director of External Advocacy focuses on broad issues affecting graduate and professional students at the local, state, and national levels, and keeps the General Assembly members aware of what’s happening, how GPSG is involved, and what they can do to help. They oversee the Advocacy and Diversity Committees and conduct voter registration.

Events Programming

The Director of Events Programming coordinates and organizes social programs for the graduate and professional student community, promote Student Life events through GPSG Newsletter and through social media, and co-sponsor events to foster collaboration among different graduate and professional student organizations.

Communications

The Director of Communication is responsible for maintaining effective communication platforms for the Government, including overseeing the GPSG newsletter and the website.

For questions about the newsletter, where to find stuff on the website and any other general information, contact the VP of Communications.

Academic Affairs

The Director of Academic Programming acts as a resource with regard to University policies and academic affairs, including the broader issues of diversity, harassment, discrimination, and due process. The Director of Academic Programming also manages the GPSG Lawyer Assistance Program.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion organizes active efforts to promote Diversity and Inclusion on campus. The Director shall pay special attention to anti-racism, anti-sexism, and the needs of International Students.

Climate Crisis Committee

The Climate Crisis Committee (CCC) at GPSG is tasked with responding to and advocating for environmentally focused issues that impact Duke’s graduate and professional student population.
